Back to growing things. We planted a small Jerusalem artichoke tuber last year. This month we harvested a couple of buckets full of them, and there are still more in the ground. Definitely on the verge of being invasive. We've cooked them for a couple of meals so far, but I'd forgotten the full extent of their flatulence-inducing capabilities. Coupled with Storm Jocelyn roaring down the chimneys, the effect was almost orchestral.

Not sure where to put this so I'll put it here.

Just Rod Stewart shopping in his local Tesco looking like the King of TKMaxx...

Taking inspiration, I decided to track down Paul Weller to see how he has aged. Looking sprightly for 97.

Here he is, jetting off to his wild wood.

Found under the floor at the DEI in Exeter. They're doing major renovations and lifting the floors to put heating in. This fellow was under the inner library, so they've put him on display for all the members to see. Given that parts of the building are over 500yrs old, it's anyone's guess how long he's been there.
(He's probably older than the subjects of the previous two posts).

Welcome yourself into the new modern crisis
Looks fun!

I make a modern UK translation as
  • 450g of flour,
  • one egg,
  • one egg yolk,
  • season with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, mace and salt (probably a pinch of each)
  • add a bit of milk to make a thick batter.
  • add 125ml of white sherry,

Mix until you have a thin batter (add more milk as needed)

Then it's pancake time in a hot pan!

I wondered what the 'sack' was.

In Galicia we make savory pancakes, eggs, flour, water and salt, cooked on a stone. The batter is very thin, and the pancakes end like lace. We then grill chourizos and roll them in the filloas.

You can see the process here.

I don't have a stone in here, so had to settle for the frying pan.

Not quite the same, but nice with a Lincolnshire sausage rolled inside.
