Yes. It is about normalisation. There is a fantastic example of this at the moment on Strictly. Much hoo-hah was made over the show having a same sex male couple. Number one it's hilarious that people were upset that a show as camp as strictly has a same sex couple. More importantly, when you watch the dances choreographed by Johannes, they are amazing. No "who is the lady and who is the man?" nonsense because of the way that the dances have been staged. The dance becomes normal, it just happens to be two men dancing rather than a man and a woman.

In fact, in their Pirates of the Caribbean dance, my main complaint is that John Whaite's role as Jack Sparrow wasn't camp / drunk enough!

If we go back 50 years, on the TV, women, the disabled and minorities were represented largely as being inferior. Anyone with a physical disability was hidden away and we called each other "spastic" in the playground. We have moved on quite a long way since then, and it's a bit sad to see that there are still terrified people who can't move on to "live and let live".
My missus watched strictly religiously until this series, not any more.

I see no need to tell the whole world my sexual orientation
My missus
You do tell the world but it's so normalised that it's become background noise.

I'm confused , earlier on in the thread it was all peace and harmony and agreement, about everything round at Shep's place.

But you also seem to be implying that your wife doesn't like the new same sex strictly.

But at the same time yr fine with all that .??

I'll take that as a compliment, cheers.

You fill yer boots my friend, I see no need to tell the whole world my sexual orientation but it seems certain groups do.

I mean, you know there's a reason for that yeah?

I know I've mentioned my own sexuality/gender a few times on here; neither define me, but it's a huge deal for a lot of people who struggle.

I think the 'not defining you' thing is important. We need to have representation of minorities in a way that doesn't make their minority status the most important or interesting thing about them, but is just a fairly ordinary part of who they are.

Going back to Star Trek, someone on twitter recently used the example of Geordi LaForge. He's a disabled character, in chronic pain who uses assistive technology. But 95% of the time it's never mentioned. It's just there, part of him, in the background. It's appropriate to mention it a few times of course, but it doesn't define the character.

I've no interest in the show and never watch it, she did but doesn't now. Not difficult to understand and not really an issue, doesn't take much to confuse you does it?

Oh wait, you can't make your mind up if you're straight or not?

Full of sh*t!

You implied she didn't watch it any more, because of the same sex couples.

But at the same time you don't have a problem with same sex couples being mainstream stuff on the telly.

But also you said earlier that everyone agrees about everything round your way .

I don't see how all these three statement s can be true at the same time.

I've no idea what the last two parts of your post are about.

The second part just seems like some very basic and unnecessary rudeness.

Light on detail, all this, but it's difficult to avoid wondering if 'Mrs Shep' just does as she's bloody well told.
