The media love a headline grabbing rumour.

And a wing of the Tory party love to feed the media....

The claim of 100 votes is a timely reminder that accuracy is not a hallmark of this despicable man. But will his fans notice or care?

No one seems to remember that his brother, his own brother, resigned from the Tory party stating he was torn between family loyalty and national interest.
It doesn’t get more stark than that.
But some people still drink the cool aid.

BBC news just reported that Sunak and Johnson are meeting discussing potential ways forward.
Johnson knows he won't beat Sunak...probally some sort of deal and he'll back him.

It will mean finding a job for Johnson in a Sunak government. Overseas Beaches Minister?

He probably won't beat him on MP votes, but if Johnson gets on the membership ballot then those cretins in the shires are mad enough to vote him in....especially as they think Sunak is not British enough (post#919 https://ncap.cyclechat.net/threads/liz-truss-the-first-100-days.339/page-62#post-41405)

I cannot see Johnson wanting to come back as a junior partner to Sunak.

Just as bad, if it is Sunak v Mordaunt, Mordaunt will win the membership vote, and it will be Liz 2.0.

As said above Sunak and Johnson appear to have had a meeting

a while after Sunak formally announced he is a candidate

Johnson has not

read into that what you will

As far as the current running is concerned the Guido Fawkes website seems to have the best guide - apparently verified

Current scores - Sunak 150 - Johnson 75 - Mordeaunt 28

Sunak's score is jumping up by a few every now and again - johnson and Mordaunt are increasing very slowly

Hopefully Johnson will leave things until the last minute then announce he is not standing - thus preventing Mordeaunt having time to try to grab his supporters
WHich I think may be the subject of the 'meeting'
"good of the Party" and all that (presumably with some sort of quid pro quo)
Arise Sir Boris may be a term the King may need to start practicing without laughing

How can MPs cast votes for candidates that haven't agreed to the process?

Another thought occurs... Sunak is wealthy enough to literally pay Johnson to withdraw / not stand.

Well, I know it may not play well on here, but, wouldn't a one horse race, with quick solution be the preferable outcome (on the assumption we are not going to get a GE anytime soon)?
