He's not alone in questioning it, quite a few in the scientific community have raised concerns about the report.

I've not read the whole thing, but looking at what's been said from both sides it isn't the conclusive evidence or the totally flawed report which (and I'm almost bored of saying this) extremists on either side want it to be.

I'm struggling to understand how the Cass report could be a piece of "scientific research".

I've not read it, and I've certainly not read the commentary on it, but my understanding is that it is a critique and not research.
