Something nasty in the woodshed
Democracy's great isn't it?
We're allowed to take the mickey out of the powerful, sometimes to the extent that one repellant crook gets replaced with another.
Freedom!
Enjoy it, before it goes the way of the right to protest.

More money for the NHS.
Keep immigration under control and stricter rules for getting in the country.
Don't mind paying a bit more tax to help fund it.
Sort trade deals out.
Up the minimum wage a bit.
That'll do for starters, incidentally I think they're all lying bastards whichever party they represent.
We seem to agree on most of this. We won't get anything like democracy until we sort out the second point and the last one.

I have no problem with immigration. A lot of people do. The left don't want to engage with the topic as it is toxic. One reason I think immigration is necessary is a skills shortage - a trade deal with India could be very good for the NHS, as was the Windrush generation. The other reason is climate change and the legacy of Western industrial nations, which needs reparations not only because of historical injustice and exploitation but also because the whole world must work in harmony to reduce industrial energy consumption. If we don't do this there will be a hell of a lot more migration sooner or later.

The 'lying bastards' issue is rife throughout parliamentary systems. They are all craven to corporate lobbies. Democracy, to deserve the name, needs truthfulness and accountability above all. We need to prioritise these above all, and talk about how at every level.

This is why I think just 'getting the Tories out', though tempting, is not an ethically forward-looking approach.

Assuming corrupt countries are not going to establish the level of mutual trust needed to work cooperatively with other nations, we first need to root out the corruption. For the UK, this means enforcing the Nolan principles and taking away the Prime Minister's power to either enforce the ministerial code or not enforce it. It's a job much more suited for judges and the Lords than for the present incumbent. It also means that elections and referendums must be campaigned for honestly, and to achieve that there can be no impunity. Lying politicians will only ever serve a dying democracy.

As 'the people' we also need to practise due diligence - seek out the news behind the news, give more regard to opinions we don't agree with in case we might learn something, and generally not expect to elect someone for 4 years to 'do politics' for us.

The.tabloods are complicit yes, in persuading the easily led, of their insidious untruths.

But 'the public' has a responsibility to be more discerning too.

That's going to be difficult with the likes of the Sun/Mail etc.
We're controlled by them to a extent.A few very wealthy owners looking after their interest is the so called free press lol
