I thought the word Conservative covered that ?

We also have to remember that not really sorting this 'crisis' is a great ploy for distracting frothing of The Shires, from the awful behaviour of the present government in other spheres.

Processing asylum claims efficiently so that the majority (80%) whose claims are eventually allowed, can get on with living and working here legitimately - is not nearly such a provoking a headline for the populist press is it??

So instead just mess about putting some UK plod on the other side of the channel, rather than sorting out safe routes, accepting our fair share of refugees as we agreed to, and process claims properly and swiftly.

Asked who was to blame for the backlog of cases at Manston, Braverman said she did not want to “point the finger of blame” at any home secretary.

“I tell you who’s at fault, it’s very clear who’s at fault, it’s the people who are breaking our rules, coming here illegally, exploiting vulnerable people and trying to reduce the generosity of the British people – that’s who’s at fault,” she said.

And she's a lawyer? They set the bar low these days....

Yet in her responses to the committee she admitted that, unless you are from Syria, Ukraine or Afghanistan, the *only* way to seek asylum in the UK is by reaching UK soil - which her government refuses to accomodate.

It’s quite clearly the UK Gov’s fault, nobody else’s.

The Tories are consummate liars.

It was a Tory MP who asked the questions.

Select committees are so much better at holding the Government to account than the debating chamber, where they just avoid the questions.

While the Tories posture and pose for their slavering supporters, elsewhere the tip of the large iceberg melts apace....

Unless the wealthy west get a grip on climate change, find a way to help floundering economies and replace despotic regimes, migration pressure is only going to increase.
The elephant is entering the room and we're going to have to budge-up.

They could of course just accept their fate and conveniently die....

Not illegal if they are processed properly. But seeing as the backlog of cases is huge, I don't see how it can be done. A solicitor couldn't prepare a complex case in a few days, plus you can appeal a decision.

You could only do it by putting new arrivals at the top of the processing queue and prioritising ones where returns are easiest. Which probably means just Albanians.

Not illegal entry if they claim asylum on arrival surely?
Lack of paperwork is neither here nor there with respect to their claim, particularly as there is no legal route available to them to enter.
