I find it quite interesting that scientists especially are able to do this. There are outstanding modern scientists, including ones who work for NASA, who are able to maintain their religious belief alongside a scientific mindset that demands hypotheses, evidence, proof etc. in their daily work.

You remind me of a programme I saw not so long ago about the history of the American space programme. When they got to Apollo 8, the first time astronauts had properly left earth, the interviewee reminisced about how, on Christmas Eve, the crew read out the first 10 verses of Genesis 1. This was unexpected, and he said it went deadly still in the command centre, you could have heard a pin drop, and many of these hard-nosed engineers were close to tears. Not the response you would expect (well I wouldn't), and I can't believe simply sentimentality. Maybe Genesis reached the parts that pure science cannot reach!

On the radio they said that their blood pressure and heart rates were elevated when they were being cared for separately but stabilised when they were brought back together and held hands.
No idea if that's true, but why not
