The narrative the DUP are pushing is that it's the Protocol stopping them, so it looks like another election it is.Be a shame if they lost more seats.😁

The DUP backed themselves into a corner by obtaining a mandate for something they can't deliver as sold. So instead of kicking the Tories hard in the nuts, they're prepared to make the people of NI suffer over a 'point of principle'.
All other mitherings about SF not taking seats etc. are IMO irrelevant and diversionary.
The Tories bought the DUP's support and then shafted them. Fight the Tories, not stuff the people.
Spaffing £6million I another election (to get us nowhere) in times of hardship is unthinkable waste....

The only upside is that this will diminish the DUP further....

The DUP don't really want power sharing. The only system they’ll accept is unionists ruling over the rest of the population of the north.
It's a shame the executive can't be formed without them.

Exactly. No one is forcing them to take their seats.
Just like no one forced SinnFein to take theirs in Westminster.
The power sharing agreement is flawed if any one party can just opt out and cause stalemate.
And I don’t care if it’s either side causing the blockage, it’s wrong and needs to stop.
But the DUP, in the current form are complete a looney party, seemingly with no way of getting out of the mess they are in without losing face.

UUP & Alliance represent enough unionist voters between them that they should be able to form an Executive with SF and without the DUP.

An interesting, almost throw-away comment in a review in the LRB -
the Stormont version of power-sharing has reinforced the Balkanisation of communities

In other words, the current rigid political system reinforces the antagonism between nationalist and unionist (or Catholic & Protestant if you prefer).

So, just as we get bumped over to using UK plates on our cars after bumping along with GB plates since forever, the political world goes in the other direction. Probably not worth hanging onto the old GB plates though. We might be on to EN sooner than we think.

How long until you need a Woolwich specific plate. You know, just in case you want to go to Dalston or something?

Only options as far as I can see are....
A Border poll on unifying Ireland
Rejoining the single market
Don't vote for the DUP !
