Totally off topic sorry ! but my daughter was trying to explain something to me that she'd seen on tv....
"Dad what's that thing that people do when the car steams up"
Me no idea !
"You do when it steams up and the car rocks"
Can't tell you how we came to the answer Dogging ! But that was it.
Feck knows what she's been watching......

I've heard many a conversation about how futile and impossible some electric charging points will be in everyday homes, same goes for heat pumps (from professinoals of the trade).
Professionals of which trade? Current heating professionals are generally tied (even if only by training, not the dealerships that some have) to fossil fuel boiler makers. Remember that the strict meaning of "professional" is someone paid to profess a particular view, such as a lawyer. If heat pumps can't work, why do they work abroad?

Take heart: it's still possible: https://www.thejournal.ie/ipcc-climate-report-mitigation-5729499-Apr2022/

Actually the true - as in original, historical - meaning of "professional" isn't as you suggest.

Amen to that.

That seems exactly what I suggest, unless you don't view admission to heaven as a payment?
Not exactly. Currently it means anyone who does stuff for money. But between the monastic/religious origins and the contemporary shapelessness - whores, footballers - it used to mean someone who had mastered their discipline by attaining a doctorate, had become an authority, and were placed to profess a competence.
Lawyers aren't paid to "profess a particular view", but to bring an expertise and qualification to the execution of the Law.

The price and uptake of all this tech has improved dramatically even over the last ten years.

I'm still having hope that we might turn things around to start countering at least the worst case scenarios.

Individuals by themselves can't do much
But individuals in groups, either as consumers or activists can do a lot more

Even if it's just buying a couple of shares in a fossil fuel company and then gaining a voice that way

Yes. Tory scum gonna be scummy.

With no detectable irony Steve Baker says:
“I am clear that questions of climate science should be handled scientifically. The last thing we need is politicians and activists twisting the science to their particular ends.”

What exact 'twisted ends' do people like SB think us activists are pursuing??

Cravenly trying to get climate change taken proper notice of??

I mean I'm not that keen on samba music, and even if I was, I could access it elsewhere..

Yes yes it's the glue sniffing were into really...

And those profiteering climate scientists ??

Hmmn, coining it in, meanly pursuing their dubious craft, whist poor old blameless oil company executives, selflessly labour away serving the needs of future generations..

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/apr/25/tories-lose-voters-net-zero-target-ditched-poll

The article says that the Tories could lose a huge number of votes if they scrap their net zero pledge. I expect the leadership to continue talking out of both sides of their mouths, one side to a concerned public and the other to Steve Baker and his ludicrous NZSG. The result will be that nothing much will change - promises about twenty years from now but very limited immediate action.
